How to Build a Vegan Charcuterie Board

Friends, what a time we are in right now- am I right? As mentioned in my Instagram stories the other day, I am committed to keeping my online space a happy, inspiring and fun one and with that in mind, I’m sharing how to build a vegan charcuterie board in partnership with Choices Markets!

Now, there is really NO wrong way to build a charcuterie board. Some like lots of fresh fruit and veggies, while others (like me, LOL) love briney, saucy and indulgent things on mine! At Choices Markets, the possibilities are endless with what ingredients you can use and you can make your board as big or as small as you want. Sometimes my husband and I do a plate sized one to enjoy together while we’re watching a movie!

Nevertheless, there is no shortage of flavour when building a vegan charcuterie board. With all these companies coming out with cheeses, spreads and dips that are animal free, you can get really creative. In this blog post, I’m going to show you how I like to build my board. It can seem incredibly daunting to create one when you see it as the final product, so here I’ll be breaking down the steps!

Step 1: Gather some props.

Coming from a baking background, I happen to have a few different items I’ve used to stage desserts and surprisingly, they work really well for a vegan charcuterie board! Candy dishes, silicon muffin cups or little shot glasses will do great in holding smaller type items or dips. Have any crystal dishes that are collecting dust? Wipe them clean and bring them out!

Step 2: Staging the props.

My symmetrical tendencies play well in this scenario as I stage all of the props in mirror image. Maybe that might take the guess work out of where to place things, but it will also create balance on the charcuterie board and be more pleasing to the eye. Keep in mind that things will move around as you start adding the food to the board but this is a good place to start!

Step 3: Adding food.

I decided to add the hummus to the larger candy bowl I had and made it the focal point. From there using the mirror image concept, I fanned crackers on the top side of the heart and repeated it at the bottom. Then I added chocolate to the green cups (again mirrored), the dried peas and fava beans to the pink cups and then some bruschetta & jelly to the shot glasses. You can see how I started moving the dishes around as I added more items, but keeping in mind the thought of doing one thing to one side means you do it to the opposite side, it made it SO much easier to add on the items!

Voila! There’s the finished product! As mentioned, the possibilities are really endless when it comes to building a vegan charcuterie board. Below you will find a ingredients list of all the items I used to build this board.
