Ingredients You'll Need
Before you get started on making these delicious candied jalapenos, it's important to have all the necessary ingredients on hand. Here's what you'll need:
-fresh jalapeno peppers
-granulated sugar
-vinegar (or apple cider vinegar)
Make sure you wash and dry the jalapenos thoroughly before beginning the preparation process.
Preparing the Jalapenos
When slicing the jalapenos it's important to protect yourself! I will wear disposable gloves so that my hands stay out of contact with the seeds. The last thing you need is to accidentally rub your eyes with your hands and have them burning! Safety first!
Slice the jalapenos into rounds, removing the stems and seeds as you go. Depending on the level of heat you desire, you can leave some seeds in or remove them all.
Making the Candied Syrup
To make the candied syrup for your jalapenos, start by mixing together the granulated sugar and vinegar in a saucepan. Place the pan over medium heat and stir occasionally until the sugar has dissolved.
Once the sugar has dissolved, add in your jalapeno slices and bring the mixture to a simmer. Allow the jalapenos to cook in the syrup for 5-10 minutes until they start to become translucent and the syrup begins to thicken.
Using a slotted spoon, carefully remove the jalapeno slices from the syrup and place them on a baking sheet to cool. Continue to simmer the remaining syrup until it thickens and becomes the consistency of honey.
Once the syrup has reached the desired thickness, remove it from the heat and let it cool for a few minutes before pouring it over the candied jalapenos.
Combining the Candied Syrup with Jalapenos
Using a resealable container or jar, scoop jalapenos into your prepared containers and top off with syrup. Store jars in the fridge for up to three months or use your preferred canning method. For best results, enjoy them the next day once all of the flavors have melded together!
